From October 24 to 25, 2020, the Fifth International Symposium on Lipid Science and Health, initiated and hosted by the Oil Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, was held at the Oil Research Institute. More than 200 well-known experts, scholars, and industry representatives from China, the United States, Australia, Finland and other domestic and foreign lipid sciences visited Wuhan Oil Research Institute to discuss in depth the cutting-edge issues in the international lipid science and health field, and discuss the road to high-quality development of the industry. The seminar was also broadcast live on the web for the first time, with more than 50,000 viewers watching it.

Hao Weiping, deputy director of the International Cooperation Bureau of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and relevant leaders from the Hubei Provincial Department of Science and Technology, the Wuhan Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, and the Chinese Nutrition Society attended the meeting. Huang Fenghong, director of the Oil Plants Research Institute, pointed out in his speech that oil is one of the three essential nutrients for people's health and is closely related to people's quality of life and nutritional health. China's oil consumption is transforming and upgrading from eating full to eating well and eating nutritious, healthy and delicious food. It is necessary to focus on people's nutrition and health, vigorously develop new industries, new technologies and new products of nutritious oils and fats, and build standardized nutritious oils. The lipid industry system helps the construction of "Healthy China".

Since 2016, the International Lipid Science and Health Symposium initiated by the Oilseeds Institute has been successfully held for 5 sessions and has become an important international academic exchange platform in the field of lipid science and health research. In the past five years, 36 internationally renowned scholars from 14 countries (regions) including the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan, and 80 domestic scholars from Tsinghua University, Peking University, China Agricultural University, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, etc. Experts and scholars from a number of scientific research institutions reported and exchanged the latest research results and progress, initiated the establishment of the Lipid Science and Health International Cooperation Alliance and the National Healthy Oil Industry Science and Technology Innovation Alliance. More than 10 world-renowned lipid scientists have been hired as international mentors. The well-known international agricultural science journal "Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry" (Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry) organized and published a special issue for this seminar, which played an important role in promoting technological innovation and high-quality industrial development in the field of lipid science and health.

During the meeting, the National Healthy Oil Industry Technology Innovation Alliance led by the Oilseeds Research Institute released 12 new technologies for the oilseeds and oils processing industry by the United Nations Agricultural Products Processing Technology Research and Development System Oil Processing Professional Committee.
